There are two primary systems:
- Leaf screens keep debris out of the gutter and let the water
flow through. Their biggest drawback is that debris tends to immediately
collect in and clog the screen. This can result in the gutter being
rendered useless, thus causing all the problems that can occur
when you don't have gutters!
- leaf screens are not the equivalent of gutter covers
and are NOT RECOMMENDED in the Atlanta region.
- If you have gutters without leaf protectors in a tree neighborhood,
then you'll need to clean your gutters every 2 weeks in the fall.
Who has time for that?
- Quality covers are attractive and give your home 'curb appeal'.
- You'll save money over hiring a
professional to clean your gutters
- Your gutters will work the way they were designed- protecting
your home. Without them, damages can result not only to your
home, but also your gutters which may begin to sag.
- Louver style covers also prevent
potentially damaging ice build-up from forming in gutters and
eventually leaking into your home.
TYPES OF
WHAT TO LOOK FOR
The key to quality leaf guard system
is the material and construction quality. All of the better systems
require professional installation. We're not just saying that because
we are professionals. Gutters must withstand harsh conditions. For
durability, materials needed require professional tools for custom
trimming. Lighter materials that are easy for homeowners to cut
are much more susceptible to usually warping, and other problems
that cause gutters to malfunction or work poorly.
How to compare gutter covers
- How much rain can it disperse per hour? (if not specified buyer
beware)
- How do they fit into your roofing system?
- What type of warranty is offered? Who guarantees the warranty?
If a distributor, how long have they been in business?
- Does it offer a solution for 'tension' or 'adhesion'? In these
systems the water is slowed by the cover material so that it
rolls over the edge into the gutter
- UV is a must to protect the surface from rapidly fading.
CHOOSING THE RIGHT GUTTER COVER FOR YOU
- Will it stand up to the weather in your area?
A home in Michigan will have different needs than a home in Atlanta
Ga.
- Extreme temperature changes and heavy snow will
require the strongest system. A medium strength system is
a better value for a home in our area.
- If you have trees with pine needles and small
leaves, DO NOT get a gutter cover that has small ridges on the
top. We have reports in Atlanta that these become very dirty
and cause yucky looking streaking.
Add Hallet Gutter Covers for the optimum mid-priced
solution in the Atlanta, Georgia area.
